If we set aside the seats on which voting was done through EVMs, BJP’s victory is limited to only 12-17 per cent. The independent and opposition candidates have given them stiff competition
BJP has won the Uttar Pradesh civic polls by a thumping majority. Is it true? No, absolutely not. This is a lie which not only the BJP but also the entire media is hiding. But the data of the election results uploaded on the state Election Commission website reveals another truth.
In fact, the percentage of the BJP’s victory is very less. If we set aside the seats on which voting was done through EVMs, BJP’s victory is limited to only 12-17 per cent. The independent and opposition candidates have given them stiff competition.
Here is a table showing the same:
This table gives a clear picture. What is most important is that the voting for the post of mayor and municipal councillor was done through EVMs and for rest of the posts ballot papers were used. In the polling through EVMs, the BJP won 87 per cent seats for the post of mayor and around 50 per cent seats for the post of councillor. But wherever ballot papers were used, the BJP victory margin came to be very less.
The former chief minister of the state Akhilesh Yadav also tweeted about the wide difference between BJP’s victory in the places where EVMs were used and seats where voting was done through ballot papers:
For the seat of Municipal corporation chairman, the victory percentage is a little more than 35 per cent where as it is less than 18 per cent in the election of municipality members. In the same manner, the BJP has registered victory on only 22.28 per cent seats and 12.22 per cent seats on Nagar Panchayat seats.
Here is another table showing that the victory BJP is harping about is actually its defeat.
If we look at these figures, it becomes clear that the BJP in fact has faced defeat in about 65 seats. Similarly, 55 per cent seats for municipal councillor have slipped from its hands. It lost almost 88 per cent seats in the election for Nagar Panchayat members.
But neither the BJP nor the mainstream media is highlighting these figures. Everywhere the magnificent victory of the BJP is being harped. But the truth is, the BJP won only where EVMs were used wherever ballot papers were used, the BJP lost substantially.
“Good news is coming from all quarters,” PM Modi said this during an interaction with the women workers of Gujarat. He had hinted at the GDP figures and the election results of UP civic polls. But he apparently forgot the grim reality behind these good news. He did not mention that the unorganised sector was not even included in the GDP estimation and there is a decline in the growth of agriculture sector.
The Prime Minister did not mention that in UP, BJP has won in the seats where EVMs were used and lost where ballot papers were used. He did not mention that the BJP has lost from the ward where Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister cast his vote and where the famous Gorakshnath Peeth is situated. He also did not mention that his party has lost even from Koushambi which happens to be the home town of Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Mourya.
